What to know about The Cambridge Satchel Company
The Cambridge Satchel Company makes British leather bags built around the traditional schoolboy satchel. Julie Deane and her mother Freda Thomas started it in 2008 at a Cambridge kitchen table with £600, and production scaled through a Leicester factory. The range spans satchels, batchels, totes, crossbodies and backpacks in bright and classic leathers, typically £105-£360, with personalised embossing. French group Chargeurs (now Compagnie Chargeurs Invest) acquired a majority stake in August 2022. Collaborations include Vivienne Westwood, Comme des Garçons, Swarovski and Wicked; a Paris store opened in March 2025.
