Australian is an Italian sportswear label created in 1956 by L'Alpina Maglierie Sportive S.p.A., the knitwear maker Leardo Gabrielli founded in 1946. Despite the name, production is Made in Italy and rooted in tennis: two-tone pique tracksuits, polos, shorts and skirts marked by a left-facing kangaroo logo. The brand is technical sponsor of the Italian Tennis Federation and licenses the name for socks and accessories. Vintage 1980s pieces became uniform in Dutch gabber and European terrace subcultures, and current collections still trade on that colour-blocked retro look. Mainline tracksuits retail roughly 150-200 euros.
