Brand profile
Balega
South African-founded maker of cushioned, blister-resistant performance running socks sold mainly through run-specialty retailers.
What to know about Balega
Balega makes technical performance socks for running, trail and everyday training. Founded in 2003 by South African couple Bert and Tanya Pictor, the brand built its following in US run-specialty retail on blister-resistant, hand-inspected knits using moisture-wicking and mohair-blend yarns. Core lines span no-show, quarter and crew heights with light-to-heavy cushioning. Production centres on a South African facility supplied with American-spun yarn. Implus Corporation acquired Balega in June 2015 and still operates the brand, whose Lesedi Project funds South African charitable causes.
