What to know about Inis Meáin
Inis Meáin Knitting Company is a family-run knitwear label based on Inis Meáin, the middle Aran Island off Ireland's west coast, and the only knitting factory on the islands. Founded in 1976 by Tarlach and Áine de Blácam to create island employment, it reinterprets traditional Aran stitches as contemporary luxury sweaters, cardigans and outerwear in cashmere, linen, alpaca, silk and Donegal lambswool. Garments are knit in micro-batches by local craftspeople. Son Ruairí and wife Marie-Thérèse took over in 2023; the company marked 50 years in 2026.
