What to know about Setchu

Setchu is a Milan-based label founded in 2020 by Kyoto-born designer Satoshi Kuwata, previously trained on Savile Row and at Givenchy, Gareth Pugh and Golden Goose. The name derives from "Wayo Setchu," signalling a meeting of Japanese and Western dress codes. Collections pair Italian craftsmanship with modular, gender-fluid tailoring, including foldable "origami" jackets, kimono shirts and hakama shorts sold with folding instructions. Setchu won the 2023 LVMH Prize and its €400,000 endowment, and staged its first runway show as guest designer at Pitti Uomo in January 2025.
