Battenwear
Battenwear is an independent New York label founded in 2011 by Shinya Hasegawa, a Tokyo-born FIT graduate who previously worked at Engineered Garments. It reinterprets mid-century American outdoor and surf gear — 1960s–80s mountain parkas, hiking packs and athletic wear — as lightweight, packable clothing. Recurring pieces include packable anoraks, team jackets, fleece pullovers, camp shirts and drawstring shorts in ripstop nylon, cotton and pile. Much of the range is produced in New York's Garment District, and it sells direct plus through independent stockists in the US, Europe and Japan.

| Category | Runs | Shape | Length | Size advice | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hoodies & sweatshirts | slightly large | boxy pullover fleece with a wide body | regular, sometimes short in the hem | Consider sizing down if you prefer a fitted sweatshirt; otherwise take your normal size. | low |
| Shirts & overshirts | slightly large | boxy camp-shirt cut with a wide chest and dropped-ish shoulder | shorter hem meant to be worn untucked | Take your normal size for the intended loose camp fit, or size down one for a cleaner line. | medium |
| Trousers & pants | true to size | relaxed, straight leg; many styles have drawstring or elastic waists that are forgiving | regular, often a slightly shorter inseam | Order your usual size — the drawstring waists absorb most fit variation. | low |
| Jackets | slightly large | relaxed anorak/team-jacket shape with layering room | regular to slightly cropped | Stick with your usual size — there is already enough room for a fleece underneath, so sizing up often reads oversized. | medium |
| T-shirts & graphic tees | slightly large | relaxed, wider through the chest than typical fashion tees | regular | Size down if you want a closer fit through the body. | low |
Does Battenwear run big or small?

Battenwear generally fits close to labelled size but is cut roomy and a bit boxy, so it often wears a half-size larger than mainstream American brands.
