Kate Spade New York is an accessible-luxury accessories label founded in 1993 by Kate and Andy Spade, built on boxy nylon totes and later leather handbags. It sells shoulder bags, crossbodies and novelty figural bags alongside jewellery, watches, footwear, eyewear, ready-to-wear and home goods, using colour-blocking, florals, polka dots and playful graphic motifs. Liz Claiborne bought the brand in 2006; Tapestry (then Coach) acquired parent Kate Spade & Company in July 2017 for about $2.4 billion and still owns it. Kate Spade herself left in 2007 and died in 2018.
