Mackintosh

Mackintosh is the Scottish outerwear house descended from chemist Charles Macintosh, who patented rubberised cloth in 1823 and began producing waterproof coats the following year. Its signature macs are still handmade at the Cumbernauld factory near Glasgow, where a single craftsman cuts, glues and hand-tapes each coat from bonded cotton — two cotton layers laminated with vulcanised rubber. The line spans Dunkeld, Dunoon and Humbie raincoats, trenches and wool coats, typically $1,200–$1,900. Tokyo trading firm Yagi Tsusho has owned the brand since 2007.
