Barneys New York
Barneys New York was a luxury specialty retailer founded in 1923 by Barney Pressman, known for its Madison Avenue and Chelsea flagships, Simon Doonan's windows, Fred's restaurant and early US backing of designers such as Comme des Garcons and Azzedine Alaia. It filed Chapter 11 in August 2019; Authentic Brands Group and B. Riley bought the assets for $271.4 million and the stores closed in 2020. Authentic licensed the name to Saks Fifth Avenue for Barneys at Saks shop-in-shops, and a Madison Avenue revival has since been reported.
