Hot Topic
Hot Topic is an American mall retailer of music- and fandom-driven apparel, founded by Orv Madden with a first store at Montclair Plaza, California, in 1989. It sells band and licensed graphic tees, pop-culture merchandise tied to Marvel, Disney, Star Wars and anime, plus goth, punk, emo and scene staples: plaid skirts, fishnets, platform boots, chains, dyed hair kits and body jewelry. Headquartered in City of Industry, California, it has been owned by private equity firm Sycamore Partners since 2013 and also operates BoxLunch. Stores continue selective closures rather than mass shutdowns.
