What to know about SHAKA

SHAKA makes webbed sport sandals, clogs and sneaker-sandal hybrids. Founded in South Africa in the 1990s, the label drew on traditional African craft and Zulu footwear, producing at its own factory and selling heavily into Japan before disappearing around 2000. Japanese operator Bloom Company acquired the license and relaunched SHAKA in 2013, retaining the original durable webbing uppers, cushioned sole units and foot-hugging shapes. Core styles include Chill Out, Hiker and Neo Bungy, plus suede Snug clogs, sold via the Japanese online store and stockists including Goodhood and Selfridges.
