Thorlo
Thorlo makes activity-specific padded socks in Statesville, North Carolina, where Lewis and Mattie Thornburg began knitting in 1953. Jim Throneburg's 1980 cushioned athletic sock defined the category, and the line still splits by use: hiking, running, tennis, walking, work, military and diabetic-care styles, plus the thinner Experia sub-brand. Construction centers on density-mapped padding at the heel, ball and toe to cut blisters and impact. Assets of the manufacturer, renamed TH Hosiery Mills, were bought in July 2025 by New American Hosiery Company, a Wilson Brown Sock Company and Circufiber joint venture.
