Ben Davis is a privately held American workwear label founded in San Francisco in 1935 by Simon Davis and his son Ben, descendants of riveted-jeans inventor Jacob Davis, and now headquartered in San Rafael, California. It produces heavyweight cotton work pants, half-zip work shirts, hickory-stripe pieces and rugged jackets, each carrying the brand's gorilla logo patch. Originally sold to tradespeople through hardware and surplus stores, it was adopted by West Coast skate, Chicano and hip-hop scenes, and remains widely stocked in Japan.
