Famous Footwear
Famous Footwear is a US off-price footwear chain and the largest division of St. Louis-based Caleres, which has owned it since 1980. It began in 1960 as Neil's Factory Shoe Outlet in Madison, Wisconsin, founded by Neil Moldenhauer. Stores stock discounted branded athletic and casual shoes for men, women and kids, with Jordan, Adidas, New Balance, Brooks, Birkenstock and Timberland among its strongest sellers. The fleet is shrinking as Caleres shifts toward premium labels: 812 stores at the end of Q1 fiscal 2026, down from 894 in 2021.
