What to know about Studio D'Artisan

Studio D'Artisan is a Japanese denim label founded in Osaka in 1979 by Shigeharu Tagaki, widely credited as the first of the "Osaka Five" repro brands alongside Denime, Evisu, Fullcount and Warehouse. It weaves selvedge denim in Okayama on shuttle looms, using cottons from American long-staple to Suvin Gold, and applies traditional Japanese craft including sashiko, wabash and Amami Oshima mud-dyeing. Its two-pig leather patch parodies Levi's two-horse mark. The brand remains independent, marking 45 years in 2024, and operates stores in Osaka, Tokyo and Yokohama.
