Ugly Rugly
Ugly Rugly is an independent New York design and production studio founded by Cole and Lauren Hansen. It makes hand-tufted rugs plus coiled rope objects and textile home goods, working in New Zealand wool, rope yarn and raw trimmings. The work leans on layered geometric shapes, asymmetrical organic forms and high-contrast color, styled as deliberately "ugly" and irreverent rather than decorative. Pieces are designed and largely made, inspected and shipped by the founders from their Brooklyn studio and UR Fancy Shop, with additional production in India and wholesale distribution via Faire.
