Walker Wear
Walker Wear is the streetwear label founded by April Walker, who opened the Brooklyn custom clothing shop Fashion in Effect in the late 1980s before launching the brand — she is cited as the first woman of color to run a boutique and streetwear line during hip-hop's golden era. The clothing blends workwear and athletic shapes: oversized carpenter pants, denim sets, logo tees, hoodies and tracksuits. Its 1990s output dressed Tupac Shakur, Notorious B.I.G., Method Man, Naughty by Nature, Queen Latifah and Aaliyah. Walker still owns and sells the brand directly, alongside archive exhibitions of its hip-hop history.
