Anthropologie is a women's lifestyle retailer founded in 1992 by Richard Hayne, whose first store opened in a converted auto shop in Wayne, Pennsylvania. It remains a wholly owned brand of Philadelphia-based URBN (Urban Outfitters, Inc.), alongside Free People and Nuuly. The mostly exclusive assortment spans dresses, denim, knitwear, shoes, accessories, beauty, bridal via Anthropologie Weddings, plus furniture, home decor and garden. Signature output leans floral, textured and vintage-referencing, with embroidery and print-heavy detailing. URBN reported 254 Anthropologie stores across North America and Europe as of January 31, 2026, a net gain of 15 that year.
