Checks Downtown is an Auckland (Tāmaki Makaurau) label founded in 2017 by designer Jordan Gibson, who works from a tailoring and streetwear background. The unisex range reworks workwear, military and classic tailoring references into relaxed, contemporary silhouettes, favouring bold colour, print and considered fabrication over logo-heavy graphics. Typical pieces include boxy jackets, pleated trousers, knitwear, caps and graphic tees. The brand runs its own brightly fronted Auckland retail space and is stocked by New Zealand retailers including Wally and FallenFront, with an active community and events presence around the store.
