Rolling luggage
Monos (Vancouver, founded 2018) and Away (New York, founded 2015) are the closest pair here: minimalist polycarbonate hardshells in muted colourways, sold mainly direct, in Carry-On and Check-In sizes. Monos adds a Carry-On Pro with a front laptop compartment; Away's cases use 360-degree spinner wheels, interior compression and TSA-approved locks, with aluminium editions above the polycarbonate line. Both sit in the same upper-middle price bracket. Floyd (Munich) is the style outlier — hard-shell cabin and check-in trunks on skateboard-style wheels in sun-faded 1970s Venice Beach pastels, and priced higher than Monos or Away. Rimowa is the luxury end: grooved aluminium-magnesium Original and Classic cases from Cologne, lighter Essential polycarbonate below them, LVMH-majority-owned since 2017. MASTER-PIECE is the connoisseur choice: coated high-density nylon and Cordura, reinforced stitching, boxy silhouettes, much of it cut and sewn at the brand's own Base Osaka facility since 2008. Eastpak's Padded Pak'r is the cheap-and-durable classic, and most Eastpak bags carry a 30-year warranty. The North Face's Borealis and Jester daypacks use FlexVent suspension and recycled, bluesign-approved fabrics — note this is a bag category within The North Face, not a separate company. Swiss Gear is the budget-functional pick, built around padded laptop compartments and ScanSmart carry-ons, sold through mass retail and Amazon. Solgaard's Lifepack line adds solar charging and lockable zippers.
Duffels and weekenders
BÉIS built its name on the Weekender, priced well below designer luggage and sold direct plus Nordstrom and Revolve.
