Karhu is a Finnish running and lifestyle footwear label founded in Helsinki in 1916 as Ab Sportartiklar Oy, first making birch skis, javelins and discuses before shifting to running shoes worn by the Flying Finns and by Emil Zatopek at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. It sold its three-stripe trademark to adidas in 1952. Current output centres on retro runners such as the Fusion 2.0, Legacy 96, Aria and Synchron, built around the Fulcrum midsole and colour-blocked mesh and suede uppers. The brand is now owned by Netherlands-based Karhu Holding B.V.
