Wacko Maria is a Tokyo label founded in 2005 by former J-League footballers Atsuhiko Mori and Keiji Ishizuka, who ran the Rock Steady bar and a record shop before making clothes. Music, film and nightlife drive the output: open-collar rayon Hawaiian shirts, leopard print, souvenir and velvet ska jackets, mohair knits, and "GUILTY PARTIES" and "PARADISE TOKYO" embroidery. Mori leads design today. Collaborators include Jim Jarmusch, Larry Clark, photographer Daido Moriyama, tattooist Tim Lehi, Undercover, Wtaps and nonnative. The company remains independent and Tokyo-based.
